Since the beginning, a karting sprocket has been a karting sprocket. The only two innovative ideas that changed a karting sprocket was to split them in half to allow easy installation for inboard 4-cycle applications decades ago… and then a few years ago, someone cut off every other tooth and called it a “skip tooth.” All through the years we have used the same bolt patterns, same pitch, and same basic designs.
Well, that has all just changed! After many months of R&D, we are proud to announce the release of the all new Xcel Drive System. Granted, this is still a sprocket that meets the sanctioning specs, but other than that it is totally redesigned from anything that you are accustom to using.
This radical new design not only provides 20-30% less rotating weight than conventional systems, it also utilizes a newly innovative “hybrid tooth design.” This design provides the lower drag of a skip tooth design, without compromising the smooth tooth engagement of full tooth designs. This is accomplished by utilizing “alignment teeth” that are specifically designed to align the links without contacting the drive pins.
In addition, the Xcel Drive System uses an innovative 4-bolt floating drive hub. This small diameter drive hub greatly reduces the rotating weight, while allowing the gear to float and self-align to the driveline. And to top it all off… the Xcel Drive System is available in #35 and #219 pitch.
