Brake pads are often overlooked during maintenance. Pads can wear and become brittle over time causing poor brake performance and even possible brake failure. Check your pads and replace them as necessary. |

Team PRC,
Hey Everyone!
Well, it has been several weeks since our last connections letter and there has been a lot going on here at Phantom Racing Chassis.
First off, we would like to let everyone know that Tony Belk is recovering well from his recent heart attack. He did come back to work this week and seems to be feeling well. Thank you for all of the phone calls, flowers, and cards that both he and we have received.
Secondly, Phantom Racing Chassis would like to congratulate Tony Gaylord and Tod Miller on their most recent victories at two of the most competitive races all season! Several weeks ago Miller captured the Lucas Oil $8,000 to win victory at Conway on his Phantom ICON and just last weekend Tony Gaylord defeated the best in the business at the World 100 in Jasper Florida to take home the victory on his Phantom ICON. Congratulations to both of you!
Finally, there's some exciting news below about Phantom Racing Chassis..be sure to check it out! |

Analyze Your Wheels...
As I have said many times before, everything you bolt to your chassis makes a difference in how it performs. Commonly, items such as the "chassis," "engine," and "tires" are most focused on, however when you really break it down, each and every component is vital to your success.
One item that I have not discussed in this manner are wheels. Up until the past few years there have only been a handful of wheel manufacturers in the industry, and for the most part, they have manufactured their products in the same manner and used similar materials. But here recently, there have been other wheel "brands" that have entered into the karting market.
Now before I go any further, let me preference this article on the fact that I am trying to stimulate your minds in to what affects your chassis and its performance. My company and I are best served if I educate you on how to perform best on our chassis. So my intention in writing this article is to get you to better evaluate your overall performance and each component therein.
So where was I...Oh yea, many people including myself believe that some of the wheels which have been released recently are "softer" than wheels we have traditionally used. More specifically, I have recently noticed a change in performance with some of our customers whom have changed to other brands of wheels. Granted, this change can be due to many other factors, but I am concerned that the change in wheel flex is playing into their chassis' performance without them even considering it.
Think of it this way...we established years ago that soft aluminum axles with a lot of flex were usually not the best setup for the masses. That being the case, we installed standard wall steel axles in all of our chassis and still do so today. For the most part, this type of axle is a constant. From years of experience and use, we have come to expect a certain amount of flex from this axle. Similarly, we have come to expect a certain amount of wheel flex from the aluminum wheels which we have used for several years. The problem lies in the fact that if you change that amount of flex you have with either the axle or the wheel, it will affect the performance of the chassis.
So what's the point I'm trying to make here? Take the time and evaluate your package and your performance. I know that this article can be taken as a pure sale's pitch, but at least consider what I am talking about. If you have recently changed wheel brands and your performance has declined, or if you are fighting a constant problem...consider that the added wheel flex might just be the cause. Just a thought...

Frequently Asked Question... |
What Advantage does the rear floor pan offer?
For years the only place you would see a rear floor pan would be at a high speed asphalt track or national event. In recent years however many racers have begun to outfit their chassis with a rear floor pan and this has spurred the question...Why?
A rear floor pan does in fact offer several advantages and benefits to your chassis. The first and most obvious benefit is the aerodynamic effect that the rear floor pan has. The rear floor pan encloses the bottom of the chassis and reduces the amount of air which circulates around the seat, axle, etc. This air which circulates in and around the chassis components can be referred to as "dirty air." (A term taken from Nascar.) The air does not flow in a direct or straight path becauses of all the chassis components in its path. For this reason, the air "hits" these components and its flow is disrupted, causing drag. Installing a rear floor pan greatly reduces the amount of air flowing in and around the chassis and forces any air which flows under the chassis to flow quickly under the chassis and out the back of the kart by the built-in air duct on the back of the pan.
The second advantage to the rear floor pan may be far less technical than the first, but no less important in my opinion. Installing a rear floor pan in your chassis can greatly reduce the amount of dirt, debris, rocks, and mud that can fly onto your chassis while racing. The rear floor pan helps to keep the rear of the chassis cleaner and eliminates a great deal of dirt which can collect on the chain, gear, rear bearings, and even clutch. All of these contaminates can cause your components to wear excessively or even fail. Keeping these vital components clean and free from dirt and debris will allow them to last longer and perform better.
If you're interested in installing a rear floor pan in your Phantom Chassis, give us a call or check them out online! We offer them for EVERY Phantom chassis!

Phantom News...

With the trade show season quickly approaching, Phantom Racing Chassis is proud to announce the "First Annual PRC Open House." This year we will host our own "open house" here at Phantom Racing Chassis in order to give karters a new and exciting event to attend this winter. The 1st Annual Phantom Racing Chassis Open House will be held on January 24th, 2009 here at our shop in China Grove, North Carolina.
Clearly, this date is the same as WKA's "Kartfest." We hope the close proximity of China Grove to Hickory as well as the Charlotte-Douglas Airport, will allow those interested to attend both venues in the same weekend.
Our intention of putting this open house on is to allow customers the opportunity to see inside of Phantom Racing Chassis and see how Phantom chassis are built. In addition, customers can receive technical support from not only our staff here at PRC, but our distributors as well.
Chassis, components, and parts will be available for purchase at our open house with sales and specials being run throughout the course of the day. These specials will be available to all in attendance and will not be valid before or after the day of the open house.
We will also be offering services to those in attendance. Some of the services which we plan to offer customers include new seat mounting, new body mounting, as well as a detailed chassis assembly demonstration by Harrill Wiggins.
On top of all that...Bench Racing is more than welcome throughout the day!
We are very excited about this great event and urge all of you to consider attending. Everyone is welcome! Complimentary food and drinks will be served throughout the day as well.
